The Birth
In the early sixteen hundreds the property at #5 Saint Ann's Avenue housed a horse stable servicing only the wealthy landowners, official residences and governors in the area. It was also a connection route to the botanical gardens. In the sixties , the property was sold to a Portuguese landowner who built a small hotel called Cactus Inn. Eventually the property was once again for sale in the early seventies. It was sold to a to very high profile medical doctor who held the post of former governor and founding member of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha. This visionary rented the property to tenants for many years. One of the tenants was a famous local sculpture artiste “Mr Patrick Choo Foon”. In the year 1995 the building was condemned and the birth of The Chancellor Hotel was established. The name, The Chancellor, was derived from the British Governance as it holds an honorary position in terms of its location.
